NoDa was formed in 1947 under the name of Norsk Ballett-
og Fridansforbund (The Norwegian Ballet Union) and we celebrated our 60th
jubilee in 2007. NoDa is the only trade union in Norway for professionals
active in the art of dance. The union is democratically organized and
has 740 members nationwide. Members are represented by the union domestically
and abroad. NoDa is a member of FIA, International federation of actors,
and Nordisk Skuespillerråd (Nordic Actors Council). The main aim for Norske Dansekunstnere is to promote and look after the member's artistic, economical and cultural political interests. Norske Dansekunstnere work constantly to secure and improve our members' working conditions, and to increase job opportunities in the field of dance. NoDa negotiates collective agreements for our members working in theatres, state funded dance companies such as Carte Blanche, public funded theatres, television broadcasting such as NRK, and Rikskonsertene. NoDa’s work can be divided into three arenas: political work, negotiations of collective agreements and protection of rights, and individual counselling to members. On the 10th of November 2007, NoDa was awarded the Honorary Prize by Dance Information Norway in recognition of the association’s significant contribution to the field of dance. Political work • Gratis Daglig Trening (Free Daily Classes: daily training for
professional dancers, in 5 regions of the country), 1988 NoDa has contributed in giving dance a higher profile in the political arena. Recent notable advances that NoDa has spearheaded include: 2005: Dance received its own allocation in the arts budget. Important projects were assembled under one entry for dance in the arts budget. 2006: The establishment and arrangement for grants for dance and the
formation of a Committee on Dance in the Arts Council Norway.
